It's been a busy few weeks for EG. With a widely covered bootcamp in Germany, a solid run at the Intel Extreme Masters World Championships, and a ton of traveling just to find themselves in Dallas for the ESEA Season 5 LAN Finals, EG.usa have looked like jet setters traveling abroad, and now they have the bling to back up up, winning the ESEA Season 5 Championship!
Throughout the entire event, EG looked completely dominant, with only compLexity, in their first map against EG, de_nuke, coming any bit close, taking EG into an overtime which EG maintained complete control in. Excello, who would become the team that had played four of EG's total six maps played this weekend, had come up entirely short against EG in their first meeting in the Upper Bracket Finals, losing de_train 16-2 in what became an appropriate steam rolling of the recently improved Excello team. The second map, dust2, went a bit better from Excello who had actually managed to take first half 8-7 over EG, before allowing EG to run all over them on offense.
After Excello had defeated Loaded CS in the Lower Bracket Final, Excello seemed poised to change history, as they would played EG yet again on de_train and de_dust2 in the Grand Final.
Fortunately for EG fans, that wouldn't quite be the case.
Excello had improved on their shortcomings on de_train, picking up twice as many rounds in the first half as they had on de_train all together on Saturday, before having what looked like a much better second half. EG battled Excello round for round however, winning the five rounds they needed after a still dominant 11-4 first half, taking what would become Excello's best effort against the ESEA Champions.
The second map, dust2, started off with EG looking to end the weekend early, jumping out to a 5-1 lead after losing the pistol round to Excello, before buying second round AK's off of cash earned from a bomb plant, winning the eco round as well as the following four rounds. Excello fought back and the two teams began to trade rounds as Excello went from a four round deficit to ending the half 8-7 in EG's favor, not half bad considering the circumstances. Second half began in a similar fashion to the first half with EG jumping out to a fast lead, though EG didn't give up the pistol round. EG had swept through a quick six unanswered rounds before Excello picked up their first and final round of the second half, with EG moving on to win a quick two rounds and clinch the Season 5 Championship!
Though EG had only played three matches throughout the bracket, they were played against arguable the #2 and #3 teams in North America, Excello and compLexity. EG's dominance on the local territory is becoming more and more defined, and now, with yet another ESEA Championship sitting on EG.usa's belts, you can look forward to EG looking to extend their success abroad to the International level! Congratulations to the ESEA Season 5 Champions, Evil Geniuses!
